NYU-Tisch Film | TV Industry Essentials
is an online certificate program hosted by Yellowbrick in conjunction with NYU-Tisch, IndieWire, and Rolling Stone. For this certificate program, I learned about the necessary components and basic skills that it takes to be in the industry. For the capstone project, we were to make a short film that showcases all that was learned.
I went from script to wrap. All the way to the beginning, I started brainstorming ideas. I created a storyboard to lead my way. Once I landed on an idea, I moved to writing the script, creating a shot list, scouting film locations, and then finally filming.
"A New Awakening"
A short film created and directed by me with the assistance of Michelle Navarro, centers a girl who was just got out of.a fresh breakup. She visits her friend to take her mind off the breakup, when strange things start to occur. Her strange relationship with cats also begins to unravel. I incorporate different elements to create continuity throughout the film.
Storyboard
The storyboard I created was sketches of what I wanted the movie to look like. I had conflicting ideas so the storyboard I created was for Idea 1, and continued the rest of the project with Idea 2. The storyboard is an outline used to draw out each scene and describe what the scene should look like. To practice creating a storyboard, I made a music video for the song by Cut Copy "Where I'm Going."
The Script
Writing
The script I wrote sets scenes, introduces characters, and has a storyline. I broke it up into different scenes and gave the characters dialogue.

For my first time writing a script, I was very proud of my work. I was able to get 4 pages of writing.

The Shoot
Shot List
The shot list breaks down each scene. Each scene is broken up into different parts based on the setup and shot. This is all documented on the shot list. I broke down every scene from my script. I reimagined the story into what I saw.
The details include what equipment is needed, what cast members are included, audio, the angles and movement of the camera, and the shot size.

Location Scouting
In order to film, there needs to be a setting. I searched for best places to tell the story and set the scenes. I landed on using places close to be as they were most accessible.
One of the scenes has the main character sleeping in her bed past her alarm. She then awakes panicked and begins to pack her bags in the bed.
This scene includes the doorbell ringing and the main character’s friend answers the door. The audience will be able to see the inside and outside view of the apartment.
